Full-Service Restaurant with a Brewery and Beer Garden
3700 Square Feet
Located in a developing section of downtown Knoxville, this building was originally a historic auto service station for the community. The design objective was to repurpose the building from serving gas and auto repair to serving high quality food and brewing beer. The industrial/machine shop aesthetic was the inspiration behind preserving the existing features and adding 2000 sf of new construction. Where once the gas pumps stood, the brew house is now featured below the historic flying canopy. We chose to embrace the main service station volume and highlight its aged concrete and brick. To this we added barn wood, steel storefronts, rust wall paneling, industrial lighting and rustic millwork. Guest mobility was a primary goal for the project and was facilitated through an open plan and operable storefronts to allow movement from interior to exterior spaces. The additions to the building worked with the existing site constraints to define an open air beer garden, private yet inviting.
